Boehringer Ingelheim

Boehringer Ingelheim was founded in 1885 by Albert Boehringer of Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany. Initially employing 28 people in a small factory in a village of Nieder-Ingelheim, the leading pharmaceutical company now has over 46,000 employees working at 140 international affiliate sites. Boehringer’s key areas of interest and research include cardiovascular and respiratory disease, oncology, hepatitis and diabetes, amongst others. Vetmedin and Metacam are two of Boehringer’s biggest success stories in the development of animal health medication.

In January 2017, Boehringer Ingelheim acquired Merial, a global animal healthcare company, invested in developing innovative care solutions for animals around the world. Merial were committed to providing the most effective and researched pharmaceuticals for companion and livestock animals everywhere, which Boehringer Ingelheim will continue this work.  Merial were leading the way in well-being and performance solutions and vaccines, and are well renowned for its parasite control products (Frontline). Ivomec (ivermectin) is branded 'the most successful animal health product ever launched' and is available to purchase from VioVet.
