Does what it says on the tin, we have a small wound which has been particularly difficult to heal, and this definitely seems to be helping! There is a slight aroma of bleach however do not be put off, I have applied it directly on the wound and wipe residue off with cotton wool. around 3 times a day. does dry the area well and a fine layer seems to appear quite quickly. Would recommend!

Can I use this if my dog is on other medication?

Karin

Hi there, my dog has inter digital furonculosis between toes and on side of legs, he is going through another flare up currently, he is on marbocyl 80mg antibiotic 1 and a half per day, apoquel one and a half daily and a monthly injection of cytopoint, a couple of his sores are taking ages to heal, will it be safe to spray this on them? thanks in advance

  • VioVet Staff

Vetericyn Wound Spray can be used to disinfect wounds like digital furunculosis. If your pet is being treated by your vet then I recommend running any treatment changes past them first though. The spray will help clean the area and prevent/treat infection but it is unlikely to directly encourage the skin to heal. It is worth discussing this with your vet if you are struggling with the skin condition.

Best strength for treatment of dog hot spots

Mrs Martin

Please could you confirm whether the regular strength or veterinary strength spray would be most appropriate for treating hot spots on an ageing golden retriever.

  • VioVet Staff

The veterinary formula is a double strength version of the regular formula. If you are treating an infection then you will likely need this added benefit so I advise using the VF version.
It's important to clip away any hair and clean a hotspot twice daily if present. The discharge needs clearing effectively or any products you apply will not be able to get down to treating the issue. If you need further advice regarding this please contact us on [email protected]. If you are not sure of the diagnosis of 'hotspot' then I recommend seeing your vet to confirm this.

For use on dog claw?

Angela

My labrador is prone to broken/split claws and has recently managed to break a little piece of the outer coating of the claw off. Im wondering if this product would be suitable to spray on the area to stop infection? Does it also provide a protective seal to the wound?

  • VioVet Staff

Vetericyn wound spray is safe to use on claw injuries. It will help disinfect the area safely. It is unlikely to provide a long term protective seal, but if used once or twice dail this should be enough to prevent a superifical infection. Sometimes claws become infected deep down though at the nail bed, if you see any discharge then I strongly advise you see your vet as prescription medications may be needed.

Can it be used for a puncture wound my dog was bitten ?

Janine aitken

My dog has a puncture wound after bein bitten can the spray be used to prevent infection ?

  • VioVet Staff

This product is useful immediately after a bite has been sustained, but it is less effective on older wounds and is of very little use once a wound has scabbed over and appears dry on the surface. It might be too late for this particular bite wound. Bathing in dilute salt water (1 teaspoon to a pint) is quite helpful immediately after a bite has been received. If a wound fails to seal over with a dry scab, then the Vetericyn can help, but your vet might need to provide antibiotics too. Deep puncture wounds and any bite wounds over the chest or abdomen are best treated by your vet in any case, to help prevent possible complications.

Hotspot in dog

Can I use the vf for hotspots in a mastiff

  • VioVet Staff

Yes this can be used on hot spots. It is important to clean away any discharge and debris on the surface of the skin as well. If it is very itchy, you will need to try and prevent any excessive chewing or scratching at the area as this makes it much worse.

Vf or regular formula

Mark Henderson

Would it cause any problems using vf strength on smaller breed dog than regular strength

  • VioVet Staff

This should not cause trouble, but you should only apply a small amount at a time.
