Description

TopSpec AntiLam is a palatable, pelleted product specifically designed to provide nutritional support for those susceptible to, being treated for, and recovering from, laminitis.

TopSpec AntiLam is a brilliant formulation combining several supplements with a high-fibre, very low-calorie carrier to make it palatable. Long-term trials at Middle Park Laminitis Research Unit have shown that horses and ponies on restricted/poor grazing do not gain any weight when fed TopSpec AntiLam. It can also be used very successfully as part of a calorie-controlled diet when weight loss is required.

AntiLam Features

  • The level of Biotin (15mg/500kg horse/day) that is scientifically proven to improve hoof quality, plus the levels of methionine, cysteine, lysine, calcium, zinc, copper, iodine, and vitamin A known to improve the efficiency of biotin alone. Chelated sources of copper and zinc are included in the formulation. Certain of these nutrients also promote supple skin and a shiny coat.
  • High levels of a pure, protected yeast to help maintain near-neutral (normal and healthy) conditions in the hindgut.
  • Additional MOS (mannan oligosaccharides).
  • A top spec broad-spectrum supplement, vital for horses and ponies on a restricted diet.
  • Generous levels of anti-oxidants including Vitamins A, C and E plus selenium to neutralise the excess free-radicals that have been increased by stress.
  • A highly digestible, high-fibre ‘supplement carrier’ to stimulate the fibre- digesting bacteria in the hindgut.
  • A ‘Non-Heating’ formula, because it is formulated without cereal grains, is very low in sugar and starch, but high in fibre

Feeding Instructions

TopSpec AntiLam is designed to be fed at a rate of 100g per 100kg bodyweight daily.

I have a miniature horse with Laminitis almost constantly. Can you give me advise on which feed would be best for her.

The best food for a horse suffering from Laminitis is to feed them a high fibre diet. It is very important to keep an eye on their weight and condition as this is often a cause of laminitis. However this doesn't mean you feed too little, it's very important to feed a high fibrous diet with vitamins and minerals in. It is a good idea to check what feed value your hay has in it, you can get tests for this, Dodson & Horrell offer a foraging test. If your hay has a high feed value you can try soaking your hay for about 12 hours as this will bring the value down. Also you can try splitting hay and good quality oat straw, just be careful if your horse has any dental problems.

For a balanced diet alongside feeding fibre in your hay and say Dengie Hifi Lite you could feed a balancer. This is when Anitlam comes in as it will contain all the essential vitamins and minerals keeping a low calorie diet. Also I'd suggest you could try a MSM product. We sell an Equine America MSM this helps reduce inflammation caused by laminitis.

Also we'd advice to avoid putting out on lush and frosty grass.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
