Royal Canin Gastro-Intestinal is a high energy-density kibble for dogs in cases of acute or chronic diarrhoea, maldigestion and malabsorption, colitis or convalescence. Combining digestible proteins, fish oils, pulps and prebiotics to promote complete digestive health and the function of internal systems. The diet is formulated to cater to the needs of growing dogs with an energy-packed kibble that allows you to distribute a smaller amount of food at mealtimes, thereby reducing the digestive workload. My lovely 65kg occasionally has bouts of colitis, diarrhoea and bleeding. I have often given him Promax paste. I want a more permanent solution. Shall I give him daily probiotic sachets or change his dog food with Royal canine gastrointestinal biscuit, or will this change of diet cause more problems. Please help
It is advised to see your vet to rule out more serious causes of this. However you can try a long term probiotic supplement. I recommend ReguTum Gastrointestinal Powder for this kind of issue as it is aimed at long term support.
Changing the diet to an intestinal support diet is also a good idea. However I suggest making one change at a time, so that you know which has helped.

Please can you advise if this food is Hydrolyzed dog food?
This has been recommended for my German Shepherd who we have recently found has a B12 deficiency. Currently using Virbac Gastro dry food.
Thinking of trying the wet food to increase her desire to eat but need to know if it’s Hydrolyzed or not.
Also, do you stock Hydrolyzed treats that we can use to boost her intake between meals ?

This diet does not contain hydrolysed proteins. We do stock a hydrolysed treat product, Hills Hypoallergenic Dog treats. It is important you follow your vet's advice closely on what to feed though, diet can make a signficant difference with intestinal issues like this. If your dog has Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) deficiency then it is important to supplement additional B12 into the diet. What age is this recommended for please as we are using puppy version for our 12 month old french bulldog
It is recommended to transfer over from a puppy diet to an adult diet when your dog is fully grown which is usually around the 12 to 18 month mark. At 12 months old your French Bulldog will be almost fully grown and you can now start transferring to the adult version.

i have two westies who suffer a lot from colitis i.e. wind in tummy eating grass loose stools one is not a good eater very fussy and is the worse of the two which food do you recommend
This diet is often appropriate for dogs such as yours and may we be suitable, either wet or driy form.. Alternatively Purina EN for dogs can be a good choice.

I have a very sensitive English pointer who is 6 years old. She has always been very sensitive to food and often has little upset tummy episodes and she is very in tune with my stress and seems to go into sympathy for me! She was extremely poorly 2 years ago with a cat parasite that left her with poor immunity and kidney damage (extent not known) she is fine in herself but lost a bit of weight recently with moving house and the arrival of two babies so I put her on a food to increase her weight but the upset tummy frequency increased and our vet said it's too much protein. She is having a few tins of the royal canine gastro and I just wondered what the difference is between this and the royal canine sensitivity as I need to change her onto one and thought the sensitivity was best but now I'm not sure? She's not a greedy dog and has always had a sensitive tummy. Many thanks
The Sensitivity Control is based on very different ingredients than the Gastro-intestinal diet. It is however similar in its nutritional properties, should be easily digested and will probably suit your dog well, but you would only know if you try it. If you do this, I would suggest giving a mixture of the diets at first and slowly change the proportions until the switch is complete.
