Description

A natural and beneficial dental cleaning product, suitable for daily use to help discourage the build-up of plaque and tartar, thereby safeguarding your pet's mouth. Contains natural iodine seaweed to whiten teeth and promote healthy looking gums. The original formula is suitable for all animals but generally used in dogs.

Now available is Plaque Off Cat! Similar to the original Plaque Off for Dogs and Cats, Plaque Off Cat also contains Brewer's Yeast which is an ingredient cats love. Cats generally have a more discerning palate, so this extra addition is made to boost the palatability of this product, and through testing it was seen that 100% of cat critics accepted Plaque Off Cat.

Improvements can be seen in as little as 3 - 8 weeks of use.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Plaque Off for Dogs and Cats, including answers from our team.

PlaqueOff suitable in hypothyroidism

Tara

My cocker spaniel has Thyforon 200mcg medication for hypothyroidism. The condition has long been under control. She is aged nine and has tartar build-up on her teeth. Is it ok to use PlaqueOff ?

  • VioVet Staff

Plaque Off does contain seaweed which is high in iodine. Iodine is used by the thyroid gland to function and so increased iodine theoretically could increase it's productivity. Hypothyroidism is an underactive thyroid gland though so this should actully work in your dog's favour, however to be safe I recommend double checking with your vet if this is suitable.

Bladder stones

Yvonne Grey

  • VioVet customer since 2020
  • From: Durham, United Kingdom

my dog had bladder stones removed a year ago is still on special diet food is it okay to use Plaque off

  • VioVet Staff

This depends on the specific type of bladder stone your pet is affected by. It is recommended you run the use of this product past your vet to be certain as they will be aware of the type of stone involved.

Side Effects

PhilH

Are there any known side effects? My Shih Tzu seems to develop Diarrhea after about 4 days of use.

  • VioVet Staff

Plaque Off is a supplement and so is classed to food. There are no listed side effects for the product, but like any food it can cause a reaction if your dog is intolerant/allergic to one of the ingredients. If you are seeing diarrhoea then I advise stopping the supplement. If the diarrhoea also stops then, if safe, you can restart the supplement to determine if this was caused by a coincidental scavenging event or the Plaque Off itself.

Is plaque off ok for pancreatatic dog.

Lesley Jane

  • VioVet customer since 2020
  • From: Devon, United Kingdom

I've got a pancreatatic dog on Zitac, Nutraflora probiotics and Nutraquin+ joint aid will Plauee Off be ok to use. Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

None of the ingredients within Plaque Off are contraindicated for a dog with pancreatitis. However it is best to limit any dietary changes if your dog has the condition. Particularly sensitive dogs can be set off even by the slightest changes, it is best running the use of the supplement past your vet to be safe.

How long does it last?

Aimee

How many scoops are in a 60g tub? If using 1 scoop per day how many days would this last. Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

One level scoop of this product is 1/3 of a gram. If giving 1 scoop per day then 1 x 60g tub should last 180 days.

Plaque Off suitable for kibble

Victoria Turner

  • VioVet customer since 2021
  • From: Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

Would you recommend using Plaque Off on kibble, or would it be more effective when used with wet food?

  • VioVet Staff

Plaque off works well with wet or dry food. You may find your pets general dental health is better on kibble though as this is less likely to get stuck within the teeth and cause plaque build up.

Is this suitable for a dog with Pancreatitis?

Jes Edwards

Is this suitable for a whippet with Pancreatitis? If not what would you recommend for him? His big back teeth have tartare buildup because he doesn’t chew with them. His frontal teeth are perfect.

  • VioVet Staff

Dogs with pancreatitis can be very prone to repeat episodes with dietary changes. This varies between patients and some are fine with additions to the diet, but if wanting to be safe I would avoid any additions to the diet. This includes safe supplements like Plaque off.
If you are wanting to help your dog's teeth then brushing is ideal. I recommend reading our blog 'Why do vets care about our pet's teeth?' for more information.

Hypoallergenic

Laura Wloskowicz

  • VioVet customer since 2020
  • From: Bedfordshire, United Kingdom

Is this product suitable for a cat on a hypoallergenic diet (Hills zd)

  • VioVet Staff

Plaque off just contains Seaweed and Brewers Yeast which are both extremely unlikely to set off an allergic reaction, however they are not guaranteed not to set one off. If your cat is currently on a food trial then I would avoid the product but if they have been stable for a while then you can try Plaque off. If your cat is allergic to seaweed in particular then you may see signs of the allergy when starting it, if this occurs then stop it immediately.
If your pet is on a prescription diet like Hills Z/D then it is always best to run any additions like Plaque off past your vet first.

Puppy at 3 months

amanda edwards

Can I use on a puppy at 3 months
He obviously doesn’t have plaque but I use with our other dog and he sometimes try’s to eat from the other dogs bowl

  • VioVet Staff

Plaque off is safe to give your 3 month old puppy but you should stick to the feeding guidelines and only give up to the maximum amount for the weight of your dog. If your pup is scavenging a small amount from the other dog's bowl then this should be a very minimal amount and cause no issues.

Is it alright to give a dog with thyroid and epilepsy

Shirl

Can I give my dog who suffers with thyroid and epilepsy.

  • VioVet Staff

As long as the epilepsy and thyroid disorders are under control with treatment from your vets, then Plaque Off is very safe to use even if these conditions are present.
