The sunscreen works well, but it's a little difficult to remember to put it on twenty minutes before the dog goes out in the sun.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Petkin SPF 15 Doggy Sunscreen, including answers from our team.

VioVet Visitor

My dog has winter pink nose which lasts through the summer. I want to put sunscreen on it to avoid it burning as there is no black pigment left. . She is obviously gojng to lick it. Is it safe if she ingests it?

  • VioVet Staff

While it is recommended that the dog ingests as little as possible, Petkin recommend using the Sunscreen Stick as it will stay on well and it contains less ingredients.

Dogs eyes

Cocoloco

Is it sutible for around the eyes? As my dog burns easily on this area.

  • VioVet Staff

This product would be very unlikely to cause harm to the eyes, but certainly might be uncomfortable if any gets into the eyes. Ideally you only apply it in such a way that none can accidentally be transferred into the eyes. I would suggest trying some but applying it very carefully and not to the very edge of the eyelids at first. After you have used it a few times, you would probably work out what was OK and if any irritation or discomfort was caused. As long as you are careful and start gradually, you are extremely unlikely to be able to cause any harm. (Not forgetting that the sun can cause harm too, so you are not starting off in a perfect situation. This sort of thing is often a balance between what is the "least worst" option.)

For cats?

karen

Can the spray be used on cats too?

  • VioVet Staff

Unfortunately due to some of the ingredients being toxic to cats if ingested, the Petkin range of sunscreens are not suitable for use on cats. One product which is suitable for use on cats is the Aniwell FiltaClear Sunblock.
