It is difficult to know how much pain Trudie is in, so she has these regularly on a daily basis and I am sure she gets some benefits. Sadly they are very expensive compared to the human version of this medication.

Original prescription medicine that our own vet could not get for us. We’re thankful that our dog can have his pain relief.

Can this be used for arthritis

  • VioVet Staff

Pardale-V is a prescription only medication that is licensed for analgesic therapy in dogs only. The product is indicated for acute pain of traumatic origin, as a complementary treatment in pain associated with other conditions and post operative analgesia.
If you are looking to alleviate pain from your arthritic dog then it may be suitable, but it must be prescribed by your vet so you should discuss this further with them.

Can I use after best before date

Debbie

My tablets have run out of date can I still use then

  • VioVet Staff

It is not advised to use any medications after their expiry date as per the packaging. They may not be effective and could possibly even be harmful.

Is Pardale-V (100) antinflamatory drug?

Maurice

How long can dogs stay on them?

  • VioVet Staff

The datasheet for Pardale-V states Treat for a maximum of 5 days. I have used this medication for longer in patients under my care though with no adverse effects, the active ingredients can be used safely in the long term. However this is an off license use of the medication and it is a prescription only drug. This means you should contact your prescribing vet and strictly follow their advice on it's use.

Long Use?

Brenda

Can my 12 yr old , O.E.S, take these pardale tablets daily? Are they safe long time.? Thank you.

  • VioVet Staff

The datasheet for this medication says 'Treat for a maximum of 5 days.' However this medication is often used off license in the long term by vets. Any long term use will need to be run past your vet first though because of this.

Side effects?

Giselle

My 13 year old schnauzer has been prescribed Pardale-V long-term for arthritis in his back legs, once a day (evening) with Rimadyl after his breakfast, which he has been taking for quite a while. After 9 days on Pardale he has started staggering when he walks, even falling over. Could it be a side effect?

  • VioVet Staff

The side effects according to the datasheet for this medication are as follows:
Occasional constipation may occur due to codeine content.
During the post-marketing surveillance, transient gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting and diarrhoea and systemic signs such as lethargy and anorexia have been observed very rarely.

The signs you describe are not listed here, it is advised you contact your vet to discuss why these could be occurring. Any possible side effects, whether in the datasheet or not, need reporting to your vet.

Dog pain

tracey collins

Can I give my dog on an empty stomach.

  • VioVet Staff

This medication does not state in it's datasheet whether it needs to be given with or without food. This means it is licensed as safe for use with or without food, however as it is a prescription only medication you should discuss how to dose it with your vet. There may be a specific reason that it should be dosed with food for your particular pet.

Labrador with nasal cancer

Maggie

We have been told he only has weeks to live but he doesn't want to leave us yet. He was on Meloxaid but he had a dodgy tummy so the vet prescribed one of these twice a day every 12 hours with a view to increase if need be. He has been pacing alot and seems doped out, is this a sign that the dosage is too low or he's uncomfortable?

  • VioVet Staff

I am really sorry to hear about your Lab's diagnosis and I will help as best I can.
Pardale-V is a prescription only medication so I strongly advise running any side effects past your vet as they will need to know about them. Pacing is not a listed side effect, the listed possible side effects for the product are pasted below:
Occasional constipation may occur due to codeine content.
During
the post-marketing surveillance, transient gastrointestinal signs such
as vomiting and diarrhoea and systemic signs such as lethargy and
anorexia have been observed very rarely.

The pacing may be related to the underlying diagnosis so I recommend discussing this with your vet.
