Description

Panacur granules contain the popular worming agent Fenbendazole in a convenient granular form for adding to food. Virtually tasteless, they can be mixed with a small treat, or just into the normal food. Effective against the major roundworm species including Toxocara (which can cause problems if accidentally transmitted to humans). It is effective against the Taenia species of tapeworm but not against Dipylidium caninum or Echinococcus multilocularis. Panacur Granules are mild and kind to pets but lethal to worms!

I want to worm my dog and to stop him getting lung worm what should i get him 9 to 10 kg sorry about the spelling am dyslexic

  • VioVet Staff

The treatments that cover lungworms contain active ingredients like moxidectin (spot-on) or milbemycin (tablets) which are currently prescription only.

Panacur covers fox lungworm not the common type of canine lungworm

Please advise dosage for Giardia treatment for 10kg French bulldog puppy (10 months)

  • VioVet Staff

The datasheet states the following regarding this:
For the treatment of clinical worm infestations in adult dogs and cats or Giardia spp. infections in dogs, administer 50mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2 lb) body weight daily for 3 consecutive days.

This equates to 1 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachet and 1 x Panacur 1g (yellow) sachet once daily for 3 consecutive days for your 10kg dog.

Whats covered and doseage

Katara

Whats covered in this wormer? And how much would i give my 4.3kg cat, she's slightly underweight and i want to give her a dewormer to rule out if she has worms.

Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

At the adult dose rate this wormer will cover roundworms and some, but not all, species of tapeworm. Your 4.3kg cat will need 1 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachet at this dose rate.
Panacur can also cover Giardia if used at the Giardia dose rate. Please see the datasheet or get in touch with us for advice on this.

Proper dosage for cats? One time or consecutive days?

Steve

It’s unclear to me what the dosage should be, as nowhere does it stipulate (clearly) which size sachet corresponds to cat weight. My cat is approx 6.5kg. So is that use the entire sachet, or something in between maybe around 2.5g? Can one dosage of 4.5g sachet which seems an awful lot overdose your cat/cause problems? In other answers it says to use one satchet each day for 3 consecutive days, without being clear what size satchet?

  • VioVet Staff

If your are dosing at the adult cat dose regime then your 6.5kg cat will need 1 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachet and 1 x Panacur 1g (yellow) sachet together as a one off dose. If you need any further dosing help please get in touch with us through our phonelines or email [email protected].

Dosage for my dog

Karen lewis

Hi we regularly use a flea worm and tick treatment on our dog and wanted to use this product as a supplement to protect her from Gardia. She is almost 1 year old and currently weighs 22.2kg. Please can you advise.

Many thanks

  • VioVet Staff

The dose for treating Giardia for your 22.2kg dog is the following, according to the datasheet:
1 x Panacur 4.5g (red) sachet and 1 x Panacur 1g (yellow) sachet, combined once daily for 3 consecutive days. Therefore you will need 3 of each sachet in total per dose course.

It is worth noting that Giardia does not tend to be an issue for the average adult pet. It can be a problem for animals with weaker immune systems, like the young or elderly or those with another underlying condition. You should not need to routinely prevent against it in the average healthy adult dog if you are already carrying out other forms of adult worming.

Panacur granules for puppies

VioVet Visitor

Hi I have a Labradoodle pup 13 kg in weight. What is the doseage please.

  • VioVet Staff

The datasheet advises the following regarding puppies under 6 months of age:
Administer 50 mg fenbendazole per 1 kg (2.2 lbs) body weight daily for 3 consecutive days.
This means your 13kg dog (if under 6 months) will need 1 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachet and 1 x Panacur 1g (yellow) sachet once daily for 3 consecutive days. A total of 3 of each sachet.

If your pup is over 6 months of age then you can use the standard adult dosing, which according to the datasheet is the following:
Administer 100mg fenbenbazole per 1 kg (2.2 lb) body weight as a single dose.
This means your 13kg dog (if 6 months or older) will need 1 x Panacur 4.5g (red) sachet and 1 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachet as one dose.

Dose for pregnant bitch

Francesca Kinner

My bitch is on day 47 of her pregnancy and weighs 16kg. I've been giving her 1.8g of panacea 22% granules but is that too much or should I be giving her 0.4g per day? I can't work out which dose it is meant to be per day - 0.4g or 1.8g?

  • VioVet Staff

The dose for a pregnant bitch as per the datasheet is as follows:
Administer 25mg fenbendazole per 1 kg (2.2 lb) body weight daily from day 40 of pregnancy continuously to 2 days post-whelping (approximately 25 days).

You are correct, this means your 16kg dog will need 1 x 1.8g (blue) sachets once daily until 2 days post whelping.
It is likely you are confused by the level of active vs non-active ingredients within each sachet. Each 1.8g sachet contains only 22.2% active ingredient, which is around 0.4g. You need to give the whole 1.8g sachet though as per the datasheet recommendations.

Guidance on Feeding?

Millie

My dog is 26kg. Is it ok to give 2.5 of the 4.g sachets on one meal, or is it best to spread it out across a few days?

  • VioVet Staff

It is recommended to dose your 26kg dog with 3 x 4.5g (red) sachets, do not halve the third one as this would be a slight underdose. Panacur is a very safe product and you should not worry about this being an overdose.
It is advised as per the datasheet to administer this all in one go if you are carrying out routine adult worming.

Treatment for giardia

Heather

I have pup 1 who is 13 months, weighs 11.4kg. Symptomatic with suspected giardia.
Pup 2 is 18 months 6.7kg and asymptomatic.
I would like to treat both for giardia but unsure of dose to use.
Also routine worming with this after initial treatment what would be the duration and dose please.

  • VioVet Staff

The doseage for Giardiasis in dogs as per the datasheet is 50mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2 lb) body weight daily for 3 consecutive days. For your pets this is the following:

11.4kg dog - 1 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachet and 1 x Panacur 1g (yellow) sachet once daily for 3 days.
6.7kg dog - 1 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachet once daily for 3 days.

Once the dosing regime is finished and you are certain the Giardia is clear then you can continue routine worming as soon as is necessary. You should leave at least a 24 hour gap between the 3 day course though, however it is unlikely you will need to worm that close to the end of the 3 day course. Adult routine worming is 100mg/kg fenbendazole as a one off dose. So for your dogs this is as follows:

11.4kg - 1 x Panacur 4.5g (red) sachet and 1 x Panacur 1g (yellow) sachet.
6.7kg - 2 x Panacur 1.8g (blue) sachets.
