Bought this to try with my young cat. She has a very sensitive tummy, and palette. So fussy with her food!
A little sprinkle mixed in with her wet dinner, and hey presto, solid poos that don't smell as bad.
Onto a winner here.

Long term dosage...

Sheryl

After we complete the 30 day daily dosages for my cats, is it a good idea for my cats (they are taking it for occasional loose stools) to get maintenance packets...maybe once a month ?

  • VioVet Staff

Fortiflora can be used safely in the long term daily. This is particularly useful for cats with underlying intestinal issues such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or those with dietary intolerances. The other way to manage this is to keep a few packets for when any loose stools start to occur, but in these kind of cases it may be easiest for all involved to keep up the daily dosing.
Dosing once monthly or even once weekly is unlikely to make any significant difference. I recommend either dosing at the advised doseage (daily) or taking a treatment break and only giving sachets when required.

When is the best time give it to my cat? Can it use if during dewormer period or after or before?

Marcello Tomasini

Hello, I have 6 months old kitten, can it give it to my kitten during the dewormer period? Is it for long term or short term treatment? how long will I see the result? thank you

  • VioVet Staff

FortiFlora is a probiotic that can be used in the short term or long term. It is most commonly used to help settle intestinal upsets such as diarrhoea, when used for this you should see an improvement within 3 to 5 days. If the problem is the same or worsening then it is best to seek veterinary advice.

Is it for support Immune system?

Suie Tomasini

My 6 months kitten has tearing eye sometimes n sneezing, congestion nose. The vet said she has cat flu. Iā€™m looking for vitamins C or homey natural solutions to support her immune system. Is it good for her?

  • VioVet Staff

FortiFlora is primarily a probiotic intestinal supportive supplement and it is best used for helping with intestinal based problems. I recommend using Flumax if you are looking for a supplement to help support your cat through the flu. It contains specially selection ingredients to support the immune system and help your kitten fight the viral disease.

Is it good for 6 months old kitten ?

Suie Tomasini

My kitten who is 6 months old and she always scooting her bottom on the floor, and vocalizing while using the litter box...will it solve this problem?? Thanks

  • VioVet Staff

This sounds like an irritation to the rear area. If this is related to the anal area then it is worth trying a probiotic like FortiFlora as this can help settle an intestinal irritation. However this can also be related to worms or a food allergy, I recommend ensuring you are up to date with worming. Please let us know if you would like worming advice by emailing [email protected].
If this is related to urination then this could be a sign of cystitis or a blockage of the urinary tract. If you are unsure I strongly advice seeing your vet as soon as possible, urinary blockages in cats are an emergency. Your cat would like be visibly very sick in this instance.

Fos

Sarah

Does the product have Fos in it.

  • VioVet Staff

FOS can be extracted from a variety of different plants, fruits and vegetables. As far as I can see Fortiflora doesn't contain any though. Our own brand probiotic, ReguTum, contains Fructo-oligosaccharides if you are looking for something that does.

  • VioVet Staff

Useful for treating constipation?

Charlotte Reid

My cat has a long term constipation problem and i am trying to find foods and supplements to help her, would this help ease constipation?

  • VioVet Staff

It might make a slight difference, but it is a long-shot. I would suggest Protexin Pro-fibre should be much better because of the fibre content. Peridale will sometimes help for this too, along with laxatives if it gets too bad.
If in doubt, always get your vet to check your cat as constipation can build up very badly in some cats.

Early CKD

Deb

My cat has been diagnosed with the start of kidney failure, but I'm struggling to find prescription renal food that she will eat. I read that this can be sprinkled onto food to encourage cats to eat but want to check that it is ok for cats with kidney issues. Thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

A small amount added to the food should be fine. Fortiflora is high in protein and a reduced protein intake is advised for cats with renal problems, so you should not overdo it. Cats are notoriously fussy at the best of times, so you might not have an easy task whatever you do. Offering just small amounts of food at a time and waiting a few hours before offering anything else is advised. Checking your cat's weight periodically would be a good idea. As long as she is not losing weight, you can persevere with just offering a little at a time and waiting for hunger to encourage her to eat different things. Sometimes you might need to give in and offer some of the older, imperfect food. Do not give very much though, then again offer the prescription food later. Eventually most cats will start to eat different foods if you keep this up, but it is not easy. Prescribed renal foods do work well, so it is worth it in the end.
