It's definitely doing the job of stopping the rabbit from having any more bouts of cystitis...and they were nasty and painful. He was on Metacam to help with his pain!

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Oxbow Natural Science Urinary Support for Small Animals, including answers from our team.

Syrian Hamsters

Sarah-Jane Lewinton

Can Syrian Hamsters have these?
I'm guessing a ratty dose or smaller would be adequate?

  • VioVet Staff

I have contacted Oxbow with regards to your question who have replied with the following:
Our Natural Science dosage recommendation for Syrian hamsters is 1/4 tablet per day and for dwarf hamsters is 1/8 tablet per day.  For particularly sensitive individuals, we suggest gradually introduce the supplement by feeding every other day to ensure it is well received prior to moving to a daily dose.  Additionally, starting any supplementation is a step that is best discussed with a veterinarian to identify the best regimen for an animal's particular needs.

My guinea-pig has cystitis will these help.

Helen Robertson

My female guinea-pig has had cystitis and a small bladder stone recently, also just been spayed due to polycystic ovaries. I bought these to help her but she is not interested in just eating them so I decided to try dissolving half a tablet in warm water and syringing it into her, she seems to enjoy it this way. I hope this will help her instead of another vet visit and more anti-biotics. I am trying to go the natural root for her now. Also researching safe essential oils that help relieve pain and discomfort.

  • VioVet Staff

Yes these tablets can be crushed into feed or water if required. If this is working well then I would continue to give them this way. I recommend following your vet's advise closely on how to treat the condition. certain essential oils can be toxic to animals so it's best to use medications if required. These have to be tested and proven safe for use.
