Optixcare Eye Lube is ideal to be used as protection to animal eyes during anesthetic. It is also used as part of the multi-pronged approach to dealing with "dry-eye". It contains hyaluron which attracts and retains water while cabomer is used for its hydrophilic and sustained release properties. The combination of these two ingredients creates a sustained release hydrophilic carbomer delivery matrix infused with nourishing and hydrating hyaluron. Carbomer gel also brings a viscosity to the gel which causes it to remain on the cornea for an extended period of time. This viscosity allows for control of the drop applied which makes it easy to apply. Optixcare Eye Gel becomes more liquid immediately on contact with the salt in the tears of the eye.
Optixcare Plus also contains hyaluron. The hyaluron attracts and retains water. It helps to deliver maximum nourishment and hydration.
Unlike mineral oil or petroleum based eye ointments, Optixcare Eye Lube is formulated with a sterile water base. Because of the water base and the gel viscosity only one drop per eye of Optixcare Eye Lube is needed. The frequency of application will depend on the veterinarian's direction and the pet owner's capability but the Eye Lube is very safe and non-irritating.
Aqua, sorbitol carbomer, sodium hydroxide, disodium EDTA, cetrimide.
Anesthesia: Instill 1-2 drops onto the corneal surface or conjunctival sac of both eyes.
Dry Eyes: Instill 1-2 drops in both eyes, two to three times a day or as often as recommended by your veterinarian.

Prefer the bigger tube you can stand on its head ,getting the last out of tiny tubes can be difficult. So far it seems to be giving the relief needed . I use it four times a day and that suits my dog . Think the Plus version is better than the straight version .Ive rated the product less than five stars in ease of use because its not easy getting it into a heavy headed Chows eyes, but thats not the products fault .

This is an excellent eye lube. I have tried several including prescription but found this to be the best. My shih tzu has chronic dry eye in one eye and milder symptoms in the other. I have found this product works brilliantly at keeping her eyes moist while stopping any irritation.

My dog has been prescribed Optimmune ointment for dry eye. No scratches on her cornea. It’s very expensive for a little tube and I was wondering if a good eye lubricant is just as effective ?
A good eye lubricant like Optixcare is a great choice as part of a dry eye treatment regime, however it is not a suitable repalcement for a medication like Optimmune. It is advised to contact your vet regarding this so you can discuss other options.

I have a rabbit with dry eyes and is prone to eye infections. Is this product suitable for rabbits? If not, what other product would you recommend?
All Optixcare products except Optixcare L-Lysine Chews can be used on rabbits or small exotic animals.

These two products are very similar, both are eye lubricants. It is recommended to only switch alongide advice from your vet though just in case they have recommended Lubrithal specifically for a reason.

Once opened, how long does a tube of optixcare last? It has no expiry date and doesn’t say when it should be thrown away. I don’t want to use it in my cats eyes if it’s out of date.
I have confirmed with the manufacturer that Optixcare lasts for up to 30 days after opening, as long as it is stored as per the packaging guidelines.

Can this help with watery eyes for a 4 month old kitten?
This eye lube will help moisten/soothe the eye and prevent it drying out but it is unlikely to terat the underlying cause of the watery eye. I advise seeing your vet so they can diagnose the cause of this, prescription eye drops may be required.

We are currently being prescribed optimise for our dog who has a dry eye condition which is very expensive. Would this product work just as well and would we need a prescription to order it?
This product is an eye lubricant, it does not cotnain any medications it just helps keep the eye lubricated and so prevents it drying out. Optimmune contains the medication ciclosporin which actively helps treat the cause of Dry Eye. Optixcare is useful to help prevent the eye running out but it is not a suitable replacement for Optimmune.
You can purchase Optimmune through our website alongside a written prescription from your vet, this may help you save money.

Need advice before ordering
This product is an eye lubricant that is helpful for dry eye as it prevents the eye drying out. However it is not an equivalent to Optimmune which contains ciclosporin. Optimmune actively works to treat the cause of dry eye, encouraging normal tear production. If Optimmune is proving too expensive then I advise discussing this with your vet. You can purchase the medication online through us alongside a written prescription, this may be more affordable for you.

Will the ointment treat a pustule on the dog's eyelid?
This product is a lubricant that can help keep the eye moist and avoid it drying out. Often eye pustules are caused by infections and this product does not contain any ingredients that will treat this, so it may not be suitable. I recommend discussing with your vet how to treat the pustule.

Optixcare can help soothe an inflamed eye by lubricating the area, however it is unlikely to help treat the underlying issue. I recommend getting this diagnosed by your vet first. Bacteria or viral infections can cause conjunctivitis and ideally this needs to be worked out and treated.

This product is likely to help with the management of dry eye due to its lubricant and water retaining properties. It would need to be applied regularly as is has no actual 'drug' in its constituents. Whether it would work alone without the optimmune is uncertain but you could give it a try (ideally in consultation with your own veterinary surgeon) and monitor response to treatment. Optimmune has an active ingredient which manages the immune aspect of dry eye, this product would not do that. Hope this helps?
