Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding FRONTLINE Spot On Flea & Tick Treatment Dogs & Cats, including answers from our team.

I have given my cat Frontline Spot On. Can I also give him Prazitel wormer at the same time?

I have given my cat Frontline Spot On. Can I also give him Prazitel wormer at the same time?

  • VioVet Staff

Yes, these two products are safe to use at the same time. If it is the first time using one or both of them then I suggest using them apart. This is so that if the rare case of a reaction occurs you can deduce which product triggered it.

Shelf life

Sarah

What will the minimum shelf life be of medications at time of purchase?

  • VioVet Staff

Our Terms and Conditions guarantee that expiry dates will be longer than the medication is required for, at least 6 months from the date of issue. It is therefore not advised to order more than 6 months worth of medication as we cannot replace/refund any medications that expire longer than 6 months from the date of delivery.
Most of our medications have expiry dates of at least a year from the date of delivery however we can only send what our supplier send us, which does vary.

Treating two dogs together

Barney and buster

Is it ok to treat two 1 year old brother Labradors together we can’t they will not play together may get it in there mouth

  • VioVet Staff

It is recommended to prevent licking of the area the spot on has been applied. The product should dry significantly within a few hours so separation for only a short period should be necessary.
If the product is licked off then it will not work effectively and some side effects may be seen.

Frontline vs ADVOCATE

Jojo Furnival

  • VioVet customer since 2022
  • From: Herefordshire, United Kingdom

My dog and I have moved to the UK from Australia where I always treated him with Advocate for flea and tic prevention. I understand that I can't get that in the UK without a vets prescription. So my question is, what's the difference between frontline and Advocate - and is frontline as effective?

  • VioVet Staff

Frontline contains fipronil and protects against fleas, lice and ticks.
Advocate contains moxidectin and imidacloprid which protects against fleas, lice, mites and roundworms (including lungworm). Advocate does not protect against ticks, but Advantix does.
Frontline and Advocate actually have slightly different coverage and it is not possible to say that one is better than the other.
If you would like further worming advice then I advise contacting us on [email protected] or chatting to your local vet.

I NEED A TABLET FOR FLEA AND TICK treatment for my DOG

  • VioVet Staff

Unfortunately there are no over the counter preventative flea/tick tablets in dogs. You can use Capstar for fleas however this will only work for 24 hours or so and not have any long lasting preventative effect.
If you need a tabletable preventative flea/tick treatment for your dog then you will need a written prescription from your vet for suitable products such as Bravecto or NexGard.

How many

Bridget

how many pipettes are there in a pack ?

  • VioVet Staff

This depends on the size of the pack you purchase. They come in 1, 3 or 6 pipette packs.

1 May 2022 at 10:37am

Ear mites

M

Will this kill ear mites in cats?

  • VioVet Staff

This product is not licensed against ear mites in cats. Only prescription wormers, such as Advocate, are licensed to do this. You can purchase these from us but you will need a written prescription from your vet to do so.

Fipronil vs. imidacloprid

Angie

I see this product has fipronil but I’m trying to figure out which of these active ingredients is better for preventing / safeguarding against ticks. They are rife in my area

  • VioVet Staff

Fipronil will cover fleas and ticks whilst imidacloprid will only cover fleas. If you are looking for tick cover then it is advised to use Fipronil because of this.

1 December 2021 at 10:20am

Tracy

Can you please confirm if there is 1 or 3 pipettes in a pack of 1.

  • VioVet Staff

I can confirm that a pack of 1 contains 1 pipette, and a pack of 3 contains 3 pipettes.

laura

what strength fipronil per ml is it?

  • VioVet Staff

The Frontline Spot On Pipettes contain Fipronil 10% w/v. This means there is 10g of Fipronil per 100ml of Frontline, AKA 0.1g or 100mg per 1ml.
