Flexadine Chewable Tablets are a palatable joint supplement designed to promote cartilage health through its unique mixture of four highly active ingredients. Combining Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Manganese, Harpagophytum Procumbens (Devil's Claw) and Chondroitin Sulphate, Flexadin is an ideal supplement to encourage and sustain optimal joint function.

Feeding guidelines
After the initial 4-6 week period the number of chewable tablets can often be reduced to a maintenance level. Reduction should be done gradually in ½ to 1 tablet steps depending on the size of your pet, and should not be reduced more than once per month. Administration may be increased at any time depending on your pet’s needs.
Chewable tablets can be given to your pet with their food, by placing them on top of the food. Alternatively, chewable tablets can be given as a treat, separate from food, so that 'Flexadin time' becomes 'treat time'.

When I read "chewable" I thought "not this dog" but I am amazed to say that he does actually have to chew it as opposed to gulping it down. He's only been on the tablets for less than a month but already he's walking better. People who don't see him every day really notice the difference and Flexadin is the only new thing in his diet. I'm delighted!

For your dog the standard Flexadin tablets at the normal maintenance dose would be appropriate. There are a number of other things you can do to help your dog. Ideally it should be regarded as a dog with a weakness, but this often can still allow a very full and happy life. Exercise should be regular but slightly restrained. Getting very tired is bad for hips like this, so exercise should never be too excited, strenuous or prolonged. Your dog should have fun, but you might need to put the dampers on it at times. The other thing which makes a big difference is keeping your dog slim. Retrievers are so prone to putting on excess weight that this alone can be the biggest problem if the hips are not great. Feed much less that you would otherwise do. Feed only just enough to keep your dog from not getting too skinny. No dog gets fat if it is not over-fed, despite all the hype about obesity epidemics. Most dogs with hip dysplasia will actually have a long and happy life if cared for appropriately. The Flexadin will help, but do not rely on it by itself. I hope things go well for you and your dog.

My dog is on Flexadin once a day and has been since July. Unfortunately, I've left his medication behind and won't be picking it up until 5 days time would he be ok without taking them for 5days?
5 days without the supplement after several months on it will not make a huge difference. If he has been on a reduced, "maintenance" dose (as is commonly advised after the initial period) then I would give him the full recommended dose for the first 5 days after you get back. Otherwise treat him as normal and he will very quickly catch up as if nothing had happened.
