I like that it's a natural herb for horses, I have tried other supplements but this seems to help more than the others I have tried.

I’ve used this product for years as Maisie is a sweet itch girl the poor love…..itch free just seemed to keep the flies and mozzies away much more than if I don’t use it and she seems far less irritated and itchy when she’s on it….. I’m not a supplement slave by any stretch but I do really believe in this product.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Dodson & Horrell Itch Free for Horses, including answers from our team.

Nosebleeds??

Jadie

I’ve been giving my 32 year old horse Itch free for a week and weirdly he has begun to have regular nosebleeds….. As this is the only change he’s had I just wondered if there was anything in Itch Free that could have triggered them? He had head shaking as a youngster but not for many years … just interested incase an ingredient can do this? I’m not annoyed, just trying to figure out why they’ve suddenly begun ?

  • VioVet Staff

It is unlikely the nosebleed and the addition of the Itch Free are linked. Even if the Itch Free was not well tolerated by your horse then this intolerance would more likely show as skin complaints or abnormal stools rather than a nosebleed. It is strongly advised that you contact your vet regarding this so they can determine the diagnosis.

Pony who has had laminitis

Kate S

Can I please just check, is it okay to feed a pony with this supplement who in the past has had laminitis?

  • VioVet Staff

In general you want to avoid sugar in supplements if your pony suffers from laminitis. Dodson & Horrell Itch Free contains just herbal ingredients and so this should not cause an issue for a laminitic pony.

Itch Free and Placid

Sarah Ginn

Can D&H Itch Free be used along side D&H Placid?

  • VioVet Staff

These products both share the herb Chamomile in the ingredients so giving both together could be an overdose of this. I recommend using a calmer that has no similar ingredients to the Itch Free, such as a magnesium based calmer like NETTEX Calmer.

Itch free compatibility

Julia Drake

is Dodson & Horrell Itch free Ok to feed alongside Formula 4 Feet ?

  • VioVet Staff

Formula 4 Feet is more aimed at the hoof and laminae whilst Itch Free has herbs that help the skin barrier. They are perfectly safe to use together and do not contain similar ingredients.

Welsh A Broodmare in foal.

Sam Cardwell

I have a broodmare in foal who has chronic sweetitch. Can I feed her this product and will it help? Sam

  • VioVet Staff

This supplement is not a licensed medication so I cannot say with any great certainty how helpful it will be. However it is a safe product and can be given during pregnancy so would be worth a try.

Feeding all year round?

Eleanor Humphries

Would you reccomend feeding this product all year round or just during summer month?
Many thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

This product can certainly be fed all year round but it depends on the individual horse. If your horse can be itchy in the winter then I would give it all year. However, if you do decide not to give it over winter I would start again at the beginning of spring to help prevent the itchiness before it even starts.
