Description

Ideally suited to complement your dog or cat's daily food intake, Canigest is a delicious feeding stuff containing Probiotics, Prebiotics, Glutamine, Pectin and Kaolin. Perfect for nutritionally supporting dogs with digestive tract upsets, Canigest Paste can be used to encourage appetite and digestion.

Stress and diet changes can affect the intestinal microflora of dogs and probiotics can help to re-establish levels of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Probiotics may also improve health conditions in dogs exposed to stress and infections. Research has shown that Enterococcus Faecium is a useful nutritional agent in antidiarrheal therapy.

Studies have shown that supplementing prebiotics such as Fructo Oligosaccharides and Mannan Oligosaccharides can increase the number of friendly bacteria in the colon while reducing the population of harmful bacteria.

Kaolin and pectin act as adsorbents. Adsorbents work by binding to harmful bacteria and toxins and removing them from the gut. Glutamine plays a role in the health of the immune system, digestive tract, and muscle cells. It acts as a mediator in the development of intestinal epithelial cells. Stress on the intestinal cells caused by digestive tract upsets can increase the need for glutamine as the body replaces the cells lining the intestinal tract.

I always keep a tube of Canigest paste in my cupboard in case of tummy upsets with my dog. I know I will then have something available to supplement the good bacteria in her gut and help in the recovery process

Canigest.

Clive Robert Trivitt

Hi, Can I give Canigest paste to my 6 month old cocker spaniel who has a tummy upset giving her very loose bowls.

  • VioVet Staff

Yes Canigest is a good choice for your 6 month old spaniel if they have loose stools. I recommend reading our blog on this for more information, link provided here.

Is canigest any good for dogs indigestion

  • VioVet Staff

Canigen is a gut supportive supplement that can help settle conditions like abnormal stools or vomiting. Indigestion is most often caused by acid reflux. Supporting the gut can help with this but sometimes prescription medications are required to reduce the acid production in stomach. It is worth trying a probiotic like this for indigestion but I would follow your vet's advice as first port of call if possible.

Is there a quick fix that isn't a paste?

I only want something for my dog when he gets an upset tummy.
Not for long term. Something that will stop immediately.
Not a syringe either but to mix in his food
Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Dawn,

Some of our customers like using ReguTum Fibre Care for short-term support. It contains bentonite montmorillonite clay (the same as Yudigest, and the same strength) plus a slightly different fibre, prebiotic and probiotic mix. Yet in periods where he needs a lot of support, you feed twice the amount than you would Yudigest, so it should help to more quickly provide the support his gut needs to firm up stools.

Rather than individual sachets, it is in a pot which keeps costs down, and you use a scoop to add the mix into his food. If he has dry food, you can even mix it with a little water to form a paste first to help it to stick to the kibble better so none is left in the bowl.

It would work out much less expensive for you than using a larger amount of Yudigest, and you can keep it tightly sealed in the pot until you need it again. You can read our reviews here - there are a mix of customers who use it for stomach upsets vs long-term support :-).

Unfortunately, most of the short-term support formulations are pastes, as it is easier to deliver live bacteria preserved in an oil base than powdered form. Here's a link to our stocked range of non-paste digestive supports.

If you have any Yudigest left, perhaps try doubling the amount you give him next time, and if that works, you could then use ReguTum Fibre Care to save money going forward.

I hope this is helpful and you find something that works for you both!

Kind regards,

Danielle

Canigest 1-2 times per week

Dean rich

Can I give my 15 year old dog canigest I- 2 per week to help his digestive system sometimes he is a bit loose will this help him

  • VioVet Staff

Yes Canigest would be suitable in this instance. You could also have a look at Protexin Pro-Kolin Enterogenic which should be very helpful and is designed to be given daily.

Smelly poop

Fi40

Would this product help our new rescue cat's smelly poop. His stool is almost firm now but I've never smelt poop like it and I've had quite a few cats over the years.

  • VioVet Staff

Canigest is marketed for dogs. I expect it might well be good for cats, but it would not be my first choice. Personally I would suggest Pro-kolin Enterogenic sachets. I have heard many good reports about their effects in dogs and cats. They work on similar lines t Canigest.
