Solensia contains frunevetmab which helps reduce pain associated with osteoarthritis. Frunevetmab is a feline monoclonal antibody (mAb) which targets nerve growth factor (NGF) which in turn inhibits NGF mediate cell signalling to reduce pain. The medication is administered by subcutaneous injection once monthly.

My 15 year old cat is able to jump (as opposed to drag himself) up onto things again since using solensia. He’s much happier. Does seem to get diarrhoea for a day or two after the monthly shot, but that’s a small price to pay for the overall benefits.

Solensia has made such a difference to my 16 year old cat, Louie, who has arthritis in his hips. Finally a product that works but with no risk to his kidneys etc. Highly recommended.

My old cat had slowed down. I thought it was his age (16) but turns out he must have been struggling with arthritis. Solensia has made a big difference and he is more active again. The cost of a monthly trip to the vet is high and my cat hates the basket/car trip. This is a better option money-wise on private prescription. Less stress for my cat too.

Or is the drug already preloaded into a disposable syringe? Thank you
Needles and syringes are not include with this medication. If you wish for advice on this then it does vary slightly depending on the size of your cat so please get in touch with our customer support team at [email protected] so we can make specific recommendations.

As an adult on different injectable meds, I need to bring my own meds up to room temp before injecting as it stings far less. Our cat had her first injection yesterday at the vet and he warned it may sting a little - which it did. I assume the vet has taken it out the fridge immediately prior to the jab so wondered if it can be allowed to come up to room temp for about 20 mins or so prior to injecting? It's early days of course but I am trying to research the long term aspect of this in regards to injecting our cat at home. Thank you
We recommend discussing this with your prescribing vet. There is nothing within the datasheet to state it should be warmed to room temprature before use and so it will depend on how they have instructed you to inject the product as to whether you need to.

what are the possible side effects of this medication
The datasheet for this medication states the following regarding side effects:
No adverse reactions were observed in laboratory overdose studies when Solensia was administered for 6 consecutive monthly doses at 5 times the maximum recommended dose.
In case of adverse clinical signs after an overdose the cat should be treated symptomatically.

My cat weighs 4.7kg. Does one packet contain 2 doses please, so enough for two months
Yes, this medication is dispensed in packs of 2 vials. Therefore a cat weighing between 2.5kg to 7.01kg will have enough for two monthly doses with each dispense.

Will solensia be kept refrigerated during delivering?
Yes, this product must be stored between 2C and 8C at all times before use. We only deliver this product via next day courier delivery, within 24 hours. We store medications like this in a designated medications refridgerator and package them in temperature controlled packaging. This ensures these temperatures are kept for at least 24 hours, in most cases up to 48 hours. This guarantees that the medication arrives safely.

We had a power outage and the product was not refrigerated for around 12 hours. Would it still be safe to use?
The datasheet for this product states that it must be stored between 2C and 8C. If it has breached this temperature for any time period then it is unknown what the effect of this would be. We recommend contacting the manufacturer direct to see if they can provide any off datasheet advice, you can find this information on the product packaging. It is quite likely they will recommend not using the medication if it has been 12 hours at room temperature.
AMOUNT OF INJECTION GIVEN?
7 LBS FELINE DOES GET HOW MUCH OF THIS PRODUCT every 4 weeks? Can it be taken with other meds in felines aka MIRTAZAPINE? WHAT IS THE CALCULATED FORMULA?
This is a prescription only medication so you should run any dose queries past your prescribing vet.
According to the datasheet a 7lb (3.18kg) cat will need 1 vial every 4 weeks. There is nothing in the datasheet contraindicating it's use with Mirtazipine so this should not be an issue.

Dennis is just about to receive his 4th injection - it was his coat that made me take him to the vet, it was very unkempt. I found that there was a slight improvement in his coat after his first injection but in the last week and a half his coat looks awful like before diagnosis. Why is this? Does it mean the solensia has stopped working?
Solensia provides pain relief for an arthritic patient. It is possible the 'unkempt' nature of the coat was seen by your vet as a sign of lack of grooming, underlying which is arthritic pain. The medication will not directly improve the coat and it is best to monitor treatment efficacy by monitoring the level of pain you see your cat in.
It is best to chat to your vet if any further advice is needed as this is a prescription only medication dispensed alongside their treatment protocol.

Is it possible to use this product for a cat who is on Thyronorm for hyperthyroidism?
There is no contraindication in the datasheet for use the ingredients within Thyronorm alongside Solensia. This means they should be safe to use together. However it is worth running this question past your prescribing vet to be certain Solensia is suitable and safe for your pet. In particular, if your cat has secondary kidney issues from the hyperthyroidism then the datasheet states the following:
The safety and efficacy of this product has not been investigated in cats with kidney disease IRIS stages 3 and 4. Use of the product in such cases should be based on a benefit-risk assessment performed by the responsible veterinarian.

Can Meloxidy and Solensia be used together?
My cat has inflammation of the nostril and I have been advised to use Meloxidyl? If Meloxidyl can't be used with Solensia what alternative drug could be used with few side effects?
Both of these are prescription only medications so you should run their use past your vet. Meloxidyl is an NSAID medication and the datasheet for Solensia states the following regarding this:
There are no safety data on the concurrent use of non-sterodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and frunevetmab in the cat. In clinical trials in humans, rapidly progressive osteoarthritis has been reported in patients receiving humanised anti-NGF monoclonal antibody therapy. The incidence of these events increased with high doses and in those human patients that received long-term (more than 90 days) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) concomitantly with an anti-NGF monoclonal antibody. Cats have no reported equivalent of human rapidly progressive osteoarthritis.
In terms of alternatives, as these are prescription medications then you will need to discuss this further with your vet.
