Cardisure contains the drug pimobendan, widely acknowledged as the drug of choice in the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs. Pimobendan is known as a positive inotrope, which means it increases the force of contraction of the heart muscle. It does this without increasing the consumption of oxygen and energy. (Pimobendan increases the sensitivity and binding efficiency of heart muscle to calcium ions, which are involved in the process of contraction of cardiac muscle.) The increased force of contraction means that the heart works more efficiently as a pump, circulating blood to the internal organs to provide oxygen and nutrition. An additional beneficial effect of pimobendan is that it causes blood vessels around the body to open up slightly (peripheral vasodilation). This reduces the resistance to flow of blood through them, reducing the workload on the heart. Hence the failing heart receives a double benefit from the medication. Improved quality of life with better exercise tolerance result, along with greater life expectancy.
Cardisure is supplied as a range of tablet sizes. The most economical are 10mg tablets, which are cleverly scored so that they are easily broken into four quarters. Hence doses of 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg and 10mg are easily given using this one tablet size. Smaller tablets, also easily divided, are available in 1.25mg, 2.5mg and 5mg sizes. Hence accurate and economical dosing of dogs of all different sizes is possible. Cardisure should be given twice daily without food. The tablets are meat flavoured to make it easier to give as a treats. Cardisure tablets come in blister packs with a long shelf life of 30 months from date of manufacture.

I absolutely love Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Ollie is our 4th and sadly one of the common disorders is a heart murmur which can develop as they get older. Our dogs have always taken another treatment for this but our vet recommended Cardisure and so far, so good. We give it to him with a scaping of doggie peanut butter and he takes it quite happily. Time will tell if his murmur gets worse. Sadly, we can't reverse it but we can slow it right down.

Is there a limit to the number of tablets I can order from Viovet at any one time ? ie if my Vet issues a 3 or 6 month prescription is that ok for you to supply ?
We can dispense as much as your vet allows through your prescription. Yes we can dispense 3 or 6 months in one go. If you order medication for use more than 6 months away then unfortunately we cannot guarantee the expiry dates on the medication will be beyond 6 months, and so the medication may not be fully usable. However most expiries we stock are at least a year or two away.

If I gave my dog cardisure for heart murmar can it make my dogs heart beat irregular
An irregular heart beat is common in dogs for lots or reasons. When a dog is quiet and at rest, the heart rate is usually irregular (in time with the breathing) in normal, healthy dogs not on any medication. It becomes regular on slight exercise. Various types of heart problem are associated with an irregular heart beat which persists or worsens on exercise and this can be clinically significant. Where these occur, they are usually the result of the underlying heart disease and are not caused by Cardisure. If in doubt, your vet needs to check your dog.

Can you tell me the difference between cardisure and vetmedin please?
They are different brands of the same drug. Vetmedin was the original, but Cardisure came out as an allowed copy, once the patent came off and other companies were allowed to produce it. They should both be equally effective.
