Below are some recent questions we've received regarding 4Fleas Tablets for Dogs & Cats, including answers from our team.
Jade Canning
Can this be used to prevent fleas in cats that don't have them
This tablet will not have a long lasting effect and so is not suitable for preventative use, only for treating an exisiting issue.
If you are looking for a preventative flea product then the only over the counter options are spot ons. Examples include Advantage or Frontline Plus.

Would it help a wild hedgehog, that we feed nightly and that we see on our camera scratching like mad?
This product is licensed for use in dogs and cats only, any use in other species is not advised and may be dangerous. It is recommended you contact your local wildlife center to discuss how you can help in this instance.

Hi,can i wash the cat in the same day I give her this tablet for fleas Johnson's 4fleas Tablets for Cats and Kittens ?i brought a kitten yesterday but she have fleas and she is very dirty .thank you
Yes you can wash your cat and give these flea tablets, it should not affect the efficacy. I recommend reading our blog 'Help - my pet's got fleas!' for a comprehensive guide on clearing the issue. Tablets like 4Fleas are great as part of a good flea treatment protocol but will not clear the infestation if used alone.

How many doses can an adult cat have
This product is dosed as follows:
Administer treatment whenever fleas are spotted on the animal. Maximum of 1 administration of tablets per day.
This means you can dose at most once daily as many times as you like. However I strongly advise using a preventative product instead of just repeat dosing with this product. 4Fleas contains an ingredient that will last a day or so and NOT prevent against fleas. Spot on flea treatments like Advantage or Frontline Plus are advised instead for the long term.

What is the active ingredient of these tablets please?
4Fleas tablets contain nitenpyram.

Mouse spends her life hunting in the fields and woods around us. Will this tablet cover everything she is likely to encounter...and eat?
These tablets only treat fleas, not mites and ticks. And it will not prevent against fleas. It is only active for the day or two after dosing. it is very effective at killing fleas on your cat in this time but it will not last for longer than this and so is not a suitable prresventative.
If you are looking for a preventative product against fleas/ticks then I advise checking out Frontline Plus or Seresto. Unfortunately there are no over the counter products that protect against mites, you will need a prescription from your vet to use a mite preventative.

Do these tablets kill mites as well?
These tablets kill fleas only, unfortunately there are no over the counter products that will kill mites. If your pet has a mite infestation then I recommend contacting your vet for a written prescription for an appropriate medication.

Got a cat with big adult fleas, the flat is treated the cat uses frontline with no results and now I’m thinking to add this flea tablets if that’s ok for the cats health, want to know how long the tablet you give it lasts for. Is it really that safe to give a cat internal treatment every day without harming internally the cat?, I’m stressed I’m feeling as itchy as the cat and been bitten by the fleas to.
I recommend reading our blog 'Help - my pet's got fleas!' for a full guide on how to clear the issue. Frontline should work to help treat the issue but it can take 2 or 3 months of treating all pets and the household to clear an infestation. This guide explains that in more detail.
4Fleas tablets contains nitenpyram which will last a day or so in the body, killing fleas that bite very effectively. It will not resolve an infestation if used alone though and its really important to treat as advised in the blog above.

Hi, can 4fleas tablets be used if a cat is taking Levetiracetam?
There are no contra-indications in the datasheet for this product with regards to using it alongside any other medications, so using it alongside Levetiracetam should be fine. I recommend contacting your prescribing vet though as without the full clinical history I cannot be 100% certain of this.

Johnson's 4fleas tablets can be safely used in pregnant or lactating females and breeding dogs.
